Hotel Review: Wisma Jampea, Makassar – Indonesia

September 12, 2015 By James Clark

Hotel Name: Wisma Jampea
Address: Jalan Jampea No. 2, Makassar, Sulawesi, Indonesia

Hotel Review: Wisma Jampea, Makassar - Indonesia

I stayed at the Wisma Jampea in Makassar, Sulawesi. I arrived in Makassar with no hotel booking so I went to Jalan Jampea in Chinatown which I knew had some budget hotels. I had stayed at the Hotel Yasmin across the road so I thought I would give this one a try.

A standard room cost 120,000 IDR ($8.30 USD) making it one of the cheapest places to stay in Makassar. It is opposite the old New Legend Hostel, which has now moved down the street and become the New Legend Hotel.

There are currently no hostels in Makassar so if you have ended up at the New Legend Hostel via an out-of-date Lonely Planet then the Wisma Jampea is a good backpacker alternative.

As far as this hotel/guesthouse goes this one is tired and run-down. My room was old and grimy with a saggy but comfortable mattress. It had one power outlet behind the TV (which is why I travel with a power strip).

Room at Wisma Jampea

The basic room had a share toilet and shower. Ahh the shared squat toilet. And to make it even more fun there was a never-ending supply of mosquitos flying in from somewhere.

Share bath and toilet

Breakfast consisted of a toasted sandwich and coffee. Pretty standard fare for guesthouses in Indonesia. I ordered it to see what breakfast was, but I ate nearby because there are lots of excellent places to in the Chinatown area of Makassar.

Breakfast

Wifi is available in the foyer only.

Overall this place is suitable for hardened backpackers travelling on a budget. For a few dollars more you can get something much nicer.

If you want to stay here the best bet is to turn up and enquire for a room. To find alternative hotels search for Hotels in Makassar on Agoda.
