One of the most often asked questions I get is “how many countries have you been to?” I wasn’t keeping track so I’ve made this list to give a proper answer (the answer is 74). The following are the countries I have visited.
Visited Countries
Albania Argentina Australia Austria Bangladesh Belgium Belarus Belize Bosnia and Herzegovina Brunei Bulgaria Cambodia Canada China Croatia Cyprus Czech Republic Denmark East Timor |
Estonia Finland France Germany Greece Guatemala Hungary Iceland India Indonesia Ireland Italy Japan Jordan Kazakhstan Laos Latvia Lebanon |
Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Malaysia Malta Mexico Monaco Montenegro Morocco Myanmar Namibia Netherlands Norway Philippines Poland Portugal Romania Serbia Singapore |
Slovakia Slovenia Solomon Islands South Africa South Korea Spain Sri Lanka Sweden Switzerland Taiwan Thailand Turkey UAE UK Uruguay USA Vatican City Vietnam |
Country Notes
I count my own country (Australia) of course.
I have counted the UK as one country, though I know some people like to count the constituent countries of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland as separate (for the record I have been to all four).
Airport layovers where I don’t leave the airport don’t count. I cover this here: When can you say you’ve been to a country?
I count countries even if I only spend part of a day there (such as Bosnia and Herzegovina which I counted as a new country day.)
I’m not on a quest to visit every country in the world. While I enjoy following along travellers that are doing it, for me I would rather revisit my favourite countries and get know them better than to go somewhere to say I have been.
