Country List

One of the most often asked questions I get is “how many countries have you been to?” I wasn’t keeping track so I’ve made this list to give a proper answer (the answer is 63).

The following are the countries I have visited. On the blog I mark each time I visit a new country with the category New Country Day, which covers new countries I’ve visited since I started this blog.

Country Notes

I count my own country (Australia) of course.

I have counted the UK as one country, though I know some people like to count the constituent countries of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland as separate (for the record I have been to all four).

Airport layovers where I don’t leave the airport don’t count.

I count countries even if I only spend part of a day there (such as Bosnia and Herzegovina.)

I’m not on a quest to visit every country in the world. While I enjoy following along travellers that are doing it, for me I would rather revisit my favourite countries and get know them better than to go somewhere to say I have been.
