Guesthouse Review: Thanh Guesthouse 1, Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnam

November 22, 2015 By James Clark

Guesthouse Name: Thanh Guesthouse 1
Address: 84/9 Bui Vien st , Pham Ngu Lao, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Thanh Guesthouse 1, Ho Chi Minh City - Vietnam

I stayed at the Thanh Guesthouse 1 in Ho Chi Minh City. I booked online for 13.90 USD per night, and I was staying here while hunting for a short term apartment rental.

The guesthouse is in the backpacker area of Pham Ngu Lau, in the alleyways that run between Pham Ngu Lau and Bui Vien (enter via Bui Vien). Those two streets are quite busy but it is not so bad in the alleyways.

I was originally allocated the room on the fifth floor (on the roof) but I was then moved to a room on the third floor. My room faced the alleyway and had good lighting. The bed was comfortable and there was a fan and A/C.

Bedroom

There was an attached bathroom with a hot water shower. It was small but clean and tidy.

Bathroom

There is free wifi available which I was able to get in my room. I couldn’t get the wifi in the top floor though, which is why I asked to moved and they were able to accommodate me.

There is no breakfast service here so I ate at one of the many cafes nearby.

Bui Vien

Overall this was a very typical guesthouse experience in the Pham Ngu Lau area. There are many rooms in this price range that are ideal for backpackers wanting a cheap private room.

Book the Thanh Guesthouse online or search for more hotels in Ho Chi Minh City.

If you want to stay outside the backpacker area check out what areas to stay in Saigon are the best.
