Flight Review: SilkAir – Makassar to Singapore

September 15, 2015 By James Clark

Flight: SilkAir MI 141
From: Makassar (UPG) To: Singapore (SIN)

Flight Review: SilkAir - Makassar to Singapore

[Edit: SilkAir has ceased operations and flights are now operated by its parent company Singapore Airlines or its low-cost affiliate Scoot.]

I flew as a guest of SilkAir from Makassar to Singapore. This was the return leg of my flight from Singapore. SilkAir fly to Makassar three times a week, and I flew on the Monday flight both times.

Before my flight I received an email alerting me that online check-in was now open. I checked in online to select a preferred seat. Online check-in is advantageous when flying from their Singapore hub as you can proceed straight to the baggage drop.

In Makassar the baggage drop is part of the check-in queue so you don’t really save time but you have at least picked a preferred seat.

The flight time to Singapore is around 2 hours and 45 minutes. Inflight entertainment is available via your personal computer through the onboard wifi (as described in my Singapore to Makassar flight review).

Immigration forms are supplied for Singapore.

SilkAir is a full-service airline so meals are served on all flights. This was a midday flight so lunch was served. I had the spicy fish with rice and vegetables. The fish was nice and not too spicy.

A tea and coffee service is also available throughout the flight.

Later on in the flight a little snack of mixed nuts and juice is offered.

SilkAir is the regional brand of Singapore Airlines, offering flights to destinations in Southeast Asia, China, India, and Australia. Like Singapore Airlines, all SilkAir flights hub out of Singapore.
