Flight Review: VietJet Air – Phu Quoc to Ho Chi Minh City

February 1, 2015 By James Clark Leave a Comment

Flight: VietJet Air VJ 323
From: Phu Quoc (PQC) To: Ho Chi Minh City (SGN)

VietJet Air – Phu Quoc to Ho Chi Minh City

I flew with VietJet Air from Phu Quoc to Ho Chi Minh City, booking directly via VietJet Air after comparing flights online.

VietJet Air is a low-cost airline from Vietnam that are expanding their reach in Southeast Asia. Like AirAsia, they offer lots of promo discounted airfares. In my case, I picked up a flight for $12 USD. This was an airfare without a checked bag. My plan was to get the bus through the Mekong Delta and ferry to Phu Quoc then fly back.

As it turns out I brought too much stuff with me (I am a novice carry-on traveller it seems). There is a 7KG carry-on limit and in this instance, my bag was weighed at check in and was 10KG. I had to check the bag which cost 330,000 VND (about $15 USD), so all up my flight ended up costing $27, which is still a cheap flight.

Phu Quoc Airport is new and there is not much air traffic (for now) so there was no delay in leaving.

I have flown with VietJet a few times now, and what I like about them is their cheap menu options. They have water for 20,000 VND ($1 USD) and cooked meals for 50,000 VND ($2.50 USD).

This was a short flight at 37 minutes so I didn’t have a meal, but I have before and it is not bad for airline food.

If you are going to be travelling to Vietnam it is worth keeping an eye on the VietJet website as they have some great deals on domestic travel in Vietnam.

I was returning to my monthly apartment rental, but if you need accommodation read the guide on where to stay in Ho Chi Minh City.
