Guesthouse Review: Oudomphet Guesthouse, Muang Xai – Laos

Guesthouse Review: Oudomphet Guesthouse, Muang Xai - Laos

Guesthouse Name: Oudomphet Guesthouse.
Address: MXQM+7W4, Muang Xai, Laos.

I stayed at Oudomphet Guesthouse in Muang Xai, Laos. This was a last minute booking as I found myself back in Muang Xai unexpectedly after a brief visit to Boten. Most of the cheap guesthouses in Muang Xai aren’t bookable online, so I just picked this guesthouse that was marked on my map. I paid 80,000 LAK ($6.30 USD) for a night.

Oudomphet Guesthouse

Not many tourists visit Muang Xai so you shouldn’t have a problem finding a room. The reception staff had no English, and I had no Lao, but that is no problem for such a simple transaction as booking a guesthouse room.

Oudomphet Guesthouse reception

I got a double room with a private bathroom, and my room was on the corner with two windows. The bed was comfartable and the room was cool enough with a rotating ceiling fan.

The room had simple wooden funishings and everything was kept in good condition. There is feee wifi here, and I had a good reception in my room.

The bathroom was of the basic Southeast Asia variety with an instant hot water system.

There is a little common area outside the rooms on the first floor.

There is no breakfast service here, so I went to a nearby Chinese breakfast place. I got the staff to order transport to the train station, which is about 3 km away.

Overall this was a decent guesthouse in Muang Xai, especially for the budget price. There is no online booking here, and addresses aren’t very useful, so just look for it on Google Maps.

If you prefer to book a hotel in advance, search for more hotels in Muang Xai.

I also stayed at Litthavixay Guesthouse, and here is my trip report for Muang Xai. I was in Muang Xai as it’s one of the main stops on the Laos-China Railway. Here is my Laos-China Railway review.
