Hotel Review: Malaysia Guest House, Bangkok – Thailand

August 31, 2016 By James Clark

Hotel Name: Malaysia Guest House
Address: 34/25-26, Soi Sri Bamphen, Bangkok, Thailand

Malaysia Guest House, Bangkok - Thailand

I stayed at the Malaysia Guest House in Bangkok. I walked in off the street and booked a room for 420 Baht a night ($12.10 USD). The guesthouse is in the old Soi Ngam Duphli backpacker neighbourhood, before Khao San Road became the backpacker area of Bangkok. This is not to be confused with the Malaysia Hotel, which is in the same area.

The Malaysia Guest House (not to be confused with the nearby Malaysia Hotel) is in a quiet soi off Soi Sri Bamphen and there is a travel agency in the reception area.

Entry

I got a single room with A/C and private bathroom. The room and building in general had a feint smell to it, which I couldn’t decide if it was smoke residue or just the age of the building.

The bathroom in the corner of the room looks like it’s has been added to the room after it was built. It’s a very small area with no room to stand at the sink because of the toilet, but at least it is a private bathroom and not shared.

Bathroom

The room had no window so the only bit of light coming in was from the exhaust fan in the wall.

No window

The wifi was good throughout the building with no issues connection. There is no breakfast service here.

I only found this place because I was staying at an Airbnb nearby and I had to move when my time was up. As far as I could see they aren’t on any booking sites or have a website, so this is one of those old-school walk-in guesthouses like the days of old.

They only reason to stay here would be if you want to stay in this neighbourhood and you are comparing walk-in rooms in the area.

If you would rather book something in advance search for more hotels in Bangkok.
