Flight Review: HK Express – Da Nang to Hong Kong

December 14, 2018 By James Clark

Flight Review: HK Express – Da Nang to Hong Kong

Flight: HK Express UO 553
From: Da Nang (DAD) To: Hong Kong (HKG)

I flew with HK Express from Da Nang to Hong Kong. HK Express are a low cost airline based in Hong Kong, flying to destinations in East Asia, and a few destinations in Southeast Asia. I’ve flown with HK Express before from Hong Kong to Osaka Kansai, and I like their style and service.

I’m subscribed to the HK Express newsletter and I saw they had a deal going from Da Nang. I needed to do a visa a run at some point, and there is always something for me to do in Da Nang, so I took the offer. Even with the sale I checked other flight prices with Skyscanner to make sure it was the best deal.

A checked bag added another $30USD to the ticket.

The total price being $112 USD.

Payment options

I like flying out of Da Nang as the airport is in the city centre. Da Nang is a popular destination for China and South Korea.

International departures

I arrived at the opening of check-in time to avoid queueing. This is what I like to see when I check in.

HK Express check-in

While Da Nang is a convenient airport, there is not much choice for food on the airside, and it’s expensive for Vietnam.

Costa coffee

It was a rainy day in Da Nang, but it stopped before we boarded via the tarmac.

The flight departs at 12:00 and arrives in Hong Kong at 14:55, for a scheduled flying time of 1H, 55M (1 hour ahead in HK).

Magazine rack

Uexplore – the inflight magazine of HK Express.

HK Express operate a fleet of A320 variations, and here is the route map for future travel considerations.

Fleet and route map

HK Express have a frequent flyer program, so I joined it just in case I end up flying more often.

RewardU

There is no free meal service, so you can order food from Utaste – the onboard menu.

Utaste

A hot meal is 65 HKD ($8.29 USD).

Meals

Pot noodles are 30 HKD ($3.83 USD).

Another magazine in the rack is Usave, which offers discount tickets to the major destinations served by HK Express.

For example you can buy tickets for the Hong Kong Airport Express train onboard, saving time and money.

Discount tickets

A Hong Kong immigration form is provided onboard.

And we arrived in Hong Kong on time.

At HKG

Overall this was a good flight option from Da Nang to Hong Kong. They also have flights from Nha Trang, so I may try that in the future.
