Hotel Review: Golden Bridge Guest House, Mt Lavinia – Sri Lanka

Golden Bridge Guest House, Mt Lavinia - Sri Lanka

Hotel Name: Golden Bridge Guest House
Address: 17 Hotel Road, Mount Lavinia, Colombo, Sri Lanka

I stayed at the Golden Bridge Guest House in Mt Lavinia, a beach suburb of Colombo, Sri Lanka. I didn’t book ahead so I found this by walking along Hotel Rd (which is a promising name when looking for a hotel) and I found this one. They had one room left of which I paid 2500 LKR ($18.80 USD).

Located between the busy Galle Rd and the beach, the hotel is about 10 minutes walk away from the station. Mt Lavinia is a well-to-do suburb popular with expats, and there are more budget options here than in Colombo. Some people prefer to stay here than in the Colombo Fort area as it’s not as busy. I prefer staying in the city proper, but as I had already stayed in Colombo I wanted to see what Mt Lavinia was like.

Turned out to be a good find as this was a comfortable guest house. My room was big and most importantly I had a soft and comfortable mattress, which broke the run of hard and thin mattresses I had been sleeping on for the prior week.

The attached bathroom had a separate shower area with good hot water service. There was a hole in the window though so mosquitos where coming and going as they pleased.

Breakfast consisted of an omlette, toast, bananas, and tea or coffee for 350 LKR (US $2.60).

Overall this is a good budget option for Mt Lavinia. You can book the Golden Bridge Guest House online or search for other hotels in Mt Lavinia, Colombo.
