Regular readers of Nomadic Notes may know that I run another site at Future Southeast Asia (previously known as Living In Asia), where I write about urban design, construction, infrastructure, and transport in Asia.
I already write a lot about cities in Asia at Nomadic Notes, but I needed a new home where I can go into detail on articles that don’t necessarily fit on a travel blog.
On Future Southeast Asia I write about new airports, construction lists for major cities, bridges, and fun stuff like making concept metro maps.

In the two years since I’ve launched the site, it’s gone from something that I publish on once a month, to a once-a-week publishing schedule that is taking up more of my work time.
Introducing my new project – The Future Southeast Asia Newsletter
To help grow the site to become an authority on transport and infrastructure in Southeast Asia, I’ve launched a weekly subscriber-supported newsletter at news.futuresoutheastasia.com.
In addition to the current monthly newsletter, there is now an expanded weekly newsletter.

Everything published at futuresoutheastasia.com will always be free to read. The subscriber option is a way of supporting the site, while giving some added value to subscribers in addition to the published reports.
As an example, I wrote about the East-West Economic Corridor railway that would travel from Myanmar to Vietnam, via Thailand and Laos. In the newsletter I expand on articles that are published each week with extra commentary, such as would it be possible to travel from Danang to Yangon by train.

I enjoy doing trip reports at Nomadic Notes, and with a subscriber-supported service, I want to visit more cities that you don’t usually read about on regular travel blogs. I’m not here to tell you what are the ten best things to do in Bangkok are, but what is life like in Banjarmasin or Balikpapan, or the border town of Boten?
Since launching futuresoutheastasia.com I’ve found a good rhythm where I write infrastructure posts there, and then a travel article on Nomadic Notes. For example, after visiting Da Nang I published Future Da Nang at Living In Asia, and a Nomadic Notes trip report.
Before I go somewhere I will do some research on what is happening in and around the city. On my last trip to Da Nang I found out about a new beach development that doesn’t have much information. I hired a bike to go and have a look at the site of the South Beach Danang project.
Stay updated on the future of travel in Asia
There are so many interesting projects going on in this rapidly-changing region that are of interest for travellers, from high-speed trains to landmark skyscrapers.
