Guesthouse Review: FUNKi Nimman Guesthouse, Chiang Mai – Thailand

November 14, 2015 By James Clark

Guesthouse Name: FUNKi Nimman Guesthouse
Address: Nimmana Haeminda Road Lane 3, Nimmanhemin, Chiang Mai, Thailand

FUNKi Nimman Guesthouse, Chiang Mai - Thailand

I stayed at the FUNKi Nimman Guesthouse in the Nimmanhemin area of Chiang Mai. This is is outside the main tourist area of the Chiang Mai old city, where most backpackers stay. Nimmanhemin is the preferred area for long term visitors and digital nomads. I would usually find a monthly apartment rental for this area but I ended up extending my stay so I opted for a guest house.

I paid 650 Baht a night (about 18.50 USD) for a private room with a shared bathroom. Not a bad price but you will get better value for money in the old city.

The FUNKi Nimman has a party vibe with bright graffiti covering the building. The reception area is also a bar at night.

My room was a good size with a comfortable single bed. At was right at the back of the building with its own window, so I didn’t get any reception noise in my room.

Bedroom

The bathroom was next to my room and appeared to be shared by one other room. It was messy when I arrived with hair and things on the floor, and wasn’t mopped up during my stay.

Bathroom

There are two big lounge areas downstairs, including the bar/kitchen area. Like the bathroom it felt like it hadn’t been cleaned for ages, with dishes perpetually piled up in the sink. The place had the vibe of a big sharehouse where none all the housemates were having a standoff over whose turn it was to clean (I’m speaking from experience here). The building being covered in graffiti probably added to the place feeling messier than it was.

Lounge

The wifi was good in my room and elsewhere in the building. There is breakfast included, which comprised of an English Breakfast in the Thai style (bacon, sausages, egg, toast, coffee). Keeping with the party vibe of the guesthouse breakfast isn’t served until 9am, which is late for this early riser!

Overall my room was nice and I like the location in Soi 3 Nimman, but the place needs to cleaned more often.

Book the FUNKi Nimman Guesthouse online or search for more hotels in Chiang Mai.

If you’re new to Chiang Mai I would stay in the Old City first. Read my guide on where to stay in Chiang Mai.
