Apartment Review: Airbnb in Nimmanhaemin Soi 9, Chiang Mai

November 6, 2015 By James Clark

Apartment Review: Airbnb in Nimmanhaemin Soi 9, Chiang Mai

Apartment: Cozy studio room in the heart of CM.
Address: Nimmanhaemin Rd Soi 9, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

[Edit: This Airbnb rental is no longer available. Search for hotels in Chiang Mai here..]

On this trip to Chiang Mai I stayed in the Nimmanhaemin area, which is popular for long term visitors. It’s a good area to stay in Chiang Mai if you are going to be based here for a while.

I was staying in another Airbnb on Nimmanhaemin Rd but I had to move as I wasn’t expecting to stay any longer.

This Airbnb apartment I found was on Soi 9 which is a good location in Nimman. The room is listed at 14 USD per night, plus the usual Airbnb fees and extras.

The apartment is above a shop, which you have to walk through to enter. The owners are a friendly Aussie-Thai couple who made me feel welcome in their abode.

The room is a studio with attached bathroom. The bed was big and comfortable and the room had big windows which opened out on to the main street.

The the other side of the room is a lounge and TV area. I never use the TV but I like the extra space that the lounge area provided.

Lounge

The bathroom was clean and tidy, and despite not having a window it didn’t feel mouldy.

I had problems with the wifi during my stay but the owner was great about it and ended up buying a new router box for the floor I was on, which fixed up the issue.

The apartment is in a section of Soi 9 that has some bars and night clubs, so between approximately 7pm and 11pm there is loud music in the street. I’m go to sleep later than that so it wasn’t an issue for me, but it’s something to note if you go to bed early.

Overall this was a good Airbnb stay and good value for a private room in the Nimman area. This place would be ideal for those who need somewhere to stay while hunting for longer term apartments in Nimman.

If you are visiting Chiang Mai for a short stay I would recommend staying in the old city, where guesthouses are cheaper and offer more value. Search for hotels in Chiang Mai here.
