Airbnb Review: Private room near Asoke in Bangkok, Thailand

As a frequent visitor to Bangkok I tend to mix my stays between hotels and Airbnbs. My last trip to Bangkok was a combination of Airbnb’s and hotels.

The Airbnb stays have been a great way to get a taste of apartment life. I usually try and find private apartments, but for this trip I wanted to stay near the Asoke area so I opted for a private room in an apartment.

This apartment is in Sukhumvit Soi 12, about 10 minutes walk from Asoke station. Sukhumvit is lined with big apartment complexes and the further you walk down the Soi’s the quieter it gets. There are still villas and old apartments waiting to be renovated further down. The apartment I stayed at was a concrete block that is looking water worn.

Soi 12 apartment

When I arrived at the apartment there was someone downstairs waiting for the key, and she took me to the floor of my room. The apartment comprised of private rooms with a shared kitchen and lounge area. It is not occupied by the owner so it felt more like a student space.

Lounge

My room was a double and the bed was comfortable. The wall had windows right across so it was bright. There was only an aircon and no fan. The aircon was a wall unit that was hard to control, and the room would have sufficed with a fan.

Some of the rooms had shared bathrooms but my room had an ensuite bathroom. a basic bathroom, a bit old like the apartment, though kept clean and in order.

Bathroom

A great balcony (despite the fake grass carpet) overlooking the neighbourhood.

There is a communal kitchen which I didn’t use, because eating in Bangkok!

The apartment complex also has a pool at the front entrance.

Overall this was a simple and basic room which served its purpose of being a place to stay in Asoke, and certainly much cheaper than any hotel in the same area. If you’ve never used Airbnb sign up with this link to get a $20 credit (use it within one month of signing up).

If you prefer to stay in a hotel find the best hotels in Bangkok here. If you have no idea what I am talking about with Asoke and Sukhumvit then read up on which areas to stay in Bangkok.
