Hotel Review: Adenia Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnam

Hotel Review: Adenia Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City - Vietnam

Hotel review of the Adenia Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, a budget hotel in the Phạm Ngũ Lão backpacker area.

Hotel Name: Adenia Hotel
Address: 267 Đường Phạm Ngũ Lao, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

I stayed at the Adenia Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. I booked online at the rate of 270,000 VND ($11 USD) per night, and I booked it for its price and location in HCMC.

The Adenia Hotel is on Phạm Ngũ Lão Street, which is the main street in the Phạm Ngũ Lao backpacker area. This is the best area to stay in Ho Chi Minh City on a budget. If you are looking for the cheapest room or are a backpacker/backpacker-at-heart, then this area is the place to look first.

Pham Ngu Lau

I don’t often stay in Phạm Ngũ Lão these days, but I like that it is so close to the city centre and it hasn’t been shunted off to an outlying area. The area is still a little scruffy, with broken footpaths and street vendors everywhere, so it is quite the introduction to Vietnam if you have just arrived here.

Even though th hotel is on the main street, it isn’t immediately obvious from the street. Just make sure you have the street number for the taxi driver.

I booked a Double Room with Window, but I never know what kind of window it’s going to be. I knew the hotel faces the big street, but my room faced the alley on the side. This probably worked out better as it was slightly quieter.

Adenia Hotel room

I got allocated a twin room, which I didn’t mind as I got to check in earlier. The bed was comfortable, and the room had the option of fan and air-conditioning. I find that a fan is adequate at night, so I wish more hotels would have both.

A tiny desk and chair set, not suitable for working. There is wifi in the hotel, and I had a good reception in my room.

Adenia Hotel table

Free water is provided, and instant coffee (though why you would drink that in a cafe city like HCMC I’m not sure).

The bathroom was clean and spacious, though the shower head could have been better.

There is no breakfast service here, though you will find plenty of banh mi vendors outside in the morning. There are many travel agents along Pham Ngu Lau, so it’s a good area if you are here for a short time and want to plan onward land travel. The hotel is also opposite 23/9 Park, which ia welcome stretch of green space in the city.

Overall this was a good budget room in the backpacker area of Ho Chi Minh City. There are plenty of hostels in this area, but if you want to give yourself a break from a dorm then these sort of budget hotels are a good option.

Check prices for the Adenia Hotel or search for more hotels in Ho Chi Minh City.
