Hotel Review: Vivo Stay, Medan – Indonesia

July 31, 2023 By James Clark

Hotel Review: Vivo Stay, Medan - Indonesia

Hotel Name: Vivo Stay.
Address: Jalan Surabaya No. 2-4, Ps. Baru Medan City Center, Medan, Indonesia.

I stayed at Vivo Stay in Medan, North Sumatra. I booked online at the rate of 193,682 IDR ($12.68 USD), and I booked it for its price and location in Medan.

I had been to Medan before but I couldn’t remember the best areas to stay. I was going by train next, so I wanted to be near the main station. Vivo Stay is a 10-minute walk from the station, which was handy because I arrived on the airport train from Kualanamu.

Vivo Stay is in a side street that happens to be the watch street of Medan. I saw a shop called Vivo Time, and I wondered if it was the same place.

There was no one at reception, but someone saw me enter from the Vivo Time shop so they came over to check me in.

My booking was for a Standard Double Room. It was a basic budget room with a comfortable bed and an air conditioning system. That’s about all you can hope for with these sort of rooms.

A small desk and stool set, free bottled water, and the obligatory TV that people probably don’t use anymore.

I always check if the room has a window when I book. My room had a window, but it was for a view of the building next door. The blind was broken anyway, so I couldn’t keep the blind open. I had this soft orange glow in my room from the blind.

The bathroom was in acceptable condition, though the shower head leaked through the hose.

There was a common area on the first floor that looked like it used to be a bar. There was no other services available here, and the place appeared to be run at a minimum from the watch shop.

I liked how there was a map on the wall showing places to eat in the area. This should be something that every hotel does. I had arrived at late lunch and was getting a bit hangry. The last thing I needed was to be aimlessly wandering around a commercial area looking for food.

Overall this was a bare-basic budget hotel room. Only recommendable if you are on a budget and just want a room to crash in for the night before moving on.
