Hotel Review of the Victoria Mansions – a budget hotel in the Malate area of Manila.
I stayed at Victoria Mansions in Malate, Manila. I booked online at the rate of 1082 PHP per night ($19.55 USD) and I booked it for its price and location in Manila.
I stayed in Malate on my first visit to Manila, and I remembered it to be the area with the most traveller/backpacker vibes. Malate is also easy to walk to the most historic areas of Manila (a long but easy walk), and it is near Manila Bay. I consider Malate as one of the beast areas to stay in Manila.
Victoria Mansions is a budget hotel near the nightlife area of Malate. It’s on a corner so it’s easy enough to find. The hotel is securely locked and you must be buzzed in to enter. It’s a low-key operation, and the person that buzzed me in scrambled around to find some one to check me in.
My booking was listed as a Studio, which had a double bed with a view out on to the street. The bed was a bit saggy but other than that it was ok. Annoyingly, the air-conditioning unit points straight at your head. The room was too hot to not run the A/C, so I got around this by pointing the air direction as high as possible and keeping the flimsy curtain over the vent. A fan would have been enough, and cheaper to operate as well.
There was a chair next to a shelf, but no desk in the room.
A TV and fridge is in the room. There is free wifi, and I had a normal reception in my room.
The bathroom was very small, but it was in ok condition apart from the limited space.
This is a basic budget hotel so there is no breakfast service here.
Overall this is an adequate hotel if you are just looking for a cheap room in the Malate area. This is best for backpackers or solo travellers who want to save pesos.
