Guesthouse Review: Riana Homestay, Rantepao – Indonesia

September 8, 2015 By James Clark

Guesthouse Name: Riana Homestay
Address: Jl. Abdul Gani No.83.h, Rantepao, North Toraja, South Sulawesi, Indonesia

Guesthouse Review: Riana Homestay, Rantepao - Indonesia

I stayed at the Riana Homestay in Rantepao, Indonesia. I walked in off the street and got a single room with bathroom for 100,000 Rupiah ($7 USD). I was staying at another guesthouse where I had bathroom issues, so I moved.

This homestay is in a side street off a side street so it was very quiet. My room had a comfortable single bed, though I’m not sure how a Real Madrid fan would feel about sleeping on this bed.

Single Room

As is typical with these budget guesthouse/homestays of Indonesia, the bathroom has a bucket of water for toilet flushing and bathing. There was a shower but it was so weak that I just used the bucket method. Also common is the lack of sink or place to hang toiletry bag and towels.

Bathroom

A simple breakfast of an egg, two pieces of white toast and tea/coffee is provided.

Breakfast

There is wifi on the premises and I didn’t have any problems connecting in my room.

The owner (Daud) is friendly and helpful with information about the Tana Toraja region. If you are there during the funeral season he can arrange guides or instruct how to get there.

Riana Homestay is not bookable online so you could either email (rianahomestay [at] gmail [dot] com) or do as I did and turn up and hope for the best. This is the case for most cheap guesthouses in Indonesia.

If you would prefer to book something in advance or find a place with more amenities (such as a bathroom sink!) search for hotels in Rantepao here.
