Guesthouse Review: Rainbow Guesthouse Penang, Georgetown – Malaysia

February 4, 2019 By James Clark

Guesthouse Review: Rainbow Guesthouse Penang, Georgetown - Malaysia

Guesthouse Name: Rainbow Guesthouse Penang.
Address: 5 Lorong Muda, George Town, Penang, Malaysia.

I stayed at the Rainbow Guesthouse Penang in Georgetown, Penang. I got a single room with a shared bathroom, and I booked it online and selected it for its price and location within the old town. This is my preferred area to stay in Georgetown.

The rate was 61.67 MYR ($15.15 USD) plus the 10 MYR tax that is charged upon checking in. This is about as cheap as it gets for a private room in Georgetown.

Lorong Muda

Rainbow Guesthouse Penang is located in a small alley not far from the Goddess of Mercy Temple.

Rainbow Guesthouse Penang

The guesthouse is in an old building that is long and skinny, typical of the shophouses of Georgetown. The ground floor has a big common area with the reception at the end.

Reception

My room had a double bed which basically took up the whole room. The bed was comfortable, the A/C worked as it should, and the power outlets were conveniently located.

Rainbow House room

There was a little space by the door to place bags and hang clothing, with a small ledge for placing items.

Table

The share bathroom were adequate, and they seemed to be kept clean throughout the day.

Bathroom

There is a kitchen area on the first floor if you are self-catering. Why you would in Penang I’m not sure but it’s there if you need it.

Kitchen

There is free wifi at the guesthouse, and I had no problems with the reception in my room.

Overall this was an adequate place if you are just looking for a cheap backpacker-style guesthouse.

Book the Rainbow Guesthouse Penang online or search for more hotels in Penang.
