Guesthouse Review: Oi Suen Guesthouse, Hong Kong

April 1, 2016 By James Clark

Guesthouse Review: Oi Suen Guesthouse, Hong Kong

Guesthouse Name: Oi Suen Guesthouse
Address: Room 811-812, 8/F, Sincere House, 83 Arygle Street, Mongkok, Hong Kong, China.

I stayed at the Oi Suen Guesthouse in Hong Kong. I booked online for the rate of $21.92 USD per night and I booked it for its location near the Mongkok metro station.

The Oi Suen Guesthouse is in an apartment block named Sincere House, which is similar to the Chungking Mansions in that it has multiple guesthouses and businesses residing in the building. Sincere House is a bit more orderly though compared to Chungking.

Sincere House listing

The reception and rooms are on the eighth floor and it feels more like an apartment than a guesthouse.

Reception

I got a single room with private bathroom. My bed was a double bed that took up the whole space. There was a window which opened to an internal service shaft, so at least there was natural light entering the room. The bed was built high enough off the floor to be able to put a big backpack underneath.

Bed

The bathroom was very small with a shower over the toilet, but it was clean and in good condition. The sink could have used some more shelf space.

Bathroom

There was a good wifi signal in my room, though it was dropping out when I was there and owner was calling the internet company to fix it when I was there.

The guesthouse location was ideal. When staying in Hong Kong I usually stay in Tsim Sha Tsui, which is near Victoria Harbour, or on Hong Kong Island. This was my first time in Mongkok and I enjoyed the area, so I will now recommend it as a place to stay in Hong Kong.

Mongkok is densely populated and still has many of the old apartment blocks of old Hong Kong, before the age of glass-box towers. The side street Oi Suen is on has lots of cheap eats, and across the road is the Ladies Market. And what I loved about this area is there are no touts on the street selling fake watches and tailor services, which Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui is overrun with now.

Overall I enjoyed my stay here. For 20 bucks this is as cheap as it gets for a private room in Hong Kong and it is ideal for budget backpackers.

Book the Oi Suen Guesthouse online or search for more hotels in Hong Kong.
