Guesthouse Review: Mut Mee Garden Guest House, Nong Khai – Thailand

December 6, 2016 By James Clark

Hotel Name: Mut Mee Garden Guest House
Address: 1111/4 Kaeworawut Road, Nong Khai, Thailand.

Guesthouse Review: Mut Mee Garden Guest House, Nong Khai - Thailand

I stayed at the Mut Mee Garden Guest House in Nong Khai, Thailand. I booked online at 250 baht ($7 USD) and booked it mainly for its location. Nong Khai is on the Mekong River, with Laos on the other side of the river. I figured that the best place to stay in Nong Khai would be along the river, so I picked Mut Mee. It turned out to be a good choice as this was a great place to stay.

I arrived at the guesthouse early having come from the overnight train from Bangkok. It was too early to check in, so I had coffee and breakfast in their garden cafe. The cafe is next to the river walk and overlooks the Mekong.

I went out exploring for a few hours and returned to check in at lunch time. I got a single room with a shared bathroom. I got a corner room with lots of natural light. The bed was comfortable and the fan was enough to keep the room cool.

Single room

I don’t mind shared bathrooms but in this case the bathroom was upstairs, which made it inconvenient for trips to the toilet. The bathroom itself was nice though, with it being open air on the top floor. You can’t see from this this picture, but there is a view of the Mekong from here. I liked having a shower with such a view.

The guesthouse is set on a big property with rooms spread out across the gardens.

Garden

It’s a nice place to hang out in the afternoon.

Hammock time

I didn’t go to any other cafes in town as I spent my spare time by the river in guesthouse cafe.

There is free wifi on the property, though the signal was weak in my room. The building I was in was at the other end of the gardens, so I did my internet duties in the cafe.

Overall I enjoyed my stay here. The location is ideal and the guesthouse has a great travellers vibe. Nong Khai is not a big tourist town which I think is part of its charm. If you are travelling around Thailand I recommend to stop off in these provincial cities as an antidote to the over-touristed places which you will no doubt encounter. I would stay here again, though next time I would option for a room with a private bathroom.

Book the Mut Mee Garden Guest House online or search for more hotels in Nong Khai.
