Hotel Review: Lam Son Hotel, Vung Tau – Vietnam

February 27, 2025 By James Clark

Hotel review of the Lam Son Hotel, a budget hotel in the Front Beach area of Vung Tau, Vietnam.

Hotel Name: Lam Son Hotel.
Address: 7 Lê Ngọc Ngân, Ward 1, Vung Tau, Vietnam.

I stayed at the Lam Son Hotel in Vung Tau, Vietnam. I booked online at the rate of 294,703 VND ($11.55 USD) per night, and I booked it for its price and location in Vung Tau

The Lam Son Hotel is in the old town area near Front Beach. This in the administrative area of Ward 1, which is one of the best areas to stay in Vung Tau. The hotel is near the ferry from HCMC to Vung Tau, so it’s easy to walk from the ferry port to the hotel.

The Lam Son Hotel is a classic old-school hotel that still survive in Vung Tau.

The hotel is by the side of a mountain, so there is a steep set of stairs to get to the reception. Unfortunately, old hotels in Vietnam aren’t built with accessibility in mind.

The hotel is motel-style, with parking in the front courtyard and outdoor corridors leading to the rooms.

The rooms have big windows, but you need to be mindful of people walking by.

Lam Son Hotel room

The bed was comfortable and the room included air-conditioning. There were enough power outlets, which is not always the case in these older hotels. There are wifi signals throughout the property.

The bathroom consisted of a separate toilet and shower room.

It took me a few minutes to realise that there was no sink in the middle section, which would have been the logical place to put it. The sink was next to the toilet with no mirror. I walked by some other rooms that weren’t occupied, and some rooms had sinks in the middel section while some rooms were the same as this one.

The hotel has a photo of dog racing on the booking sites, which is a reference to a nearby dog racing track that appeared to be abandoned.

Despite the odd bathroom setup, this was a nice budget hotel to stay in. Vung Tau is small enough to be walkable from anywhere, and if you prefer the Front Beach then the location is easy to walk to the main areas.

Check prices for the Lam Son Hotel or search for more hotels in Vung Tau.
