Hotel Review: Kama Hotel, Medan – Indonesia. Budget hotel in the Medan old town area

August 1, 2023 By James Clark

Hotel Review: Kama Hotel, Medan - Indonesia

Hotel Name: Kama Hotel.
Address: Jl. Jend. Ahmad Yani No.97, Kesawan, Medan, Sumatera, Indonesia.

I stayed at the Kama Hotel in Medan, Indonesia. I booked online at the rate of $17.54 USD, and I booked it for its location in Medan.

The Kama Hotel is on Jalan Jend. Ahmad Yani, which is the main road of the old town area. This road has the most interesting old buildings in Medan, and it’s within walking distance of the train station. This road is one of the best areas to stay in Medan for visitors.

The hotel stands out on the street in a distinct pink building.

I checked in and I was informed that the only room available was on one of the smoking floors. Smoking is so common in Indonesia that smoking floors still exist here. I wasn’t pleased with that, I had no choice at this point.

Smoking and no-smoking floors

My cheap room was on the top floor which had no lift service, so you have to walk a flight of stairs to get there.

Hallway

My room was a single, and it was more spacious than I expected. Thankfully it didn’t smell of stale smoke.

The bed was comfortable and the room was kept in good condition. This was a nice change from the other budget hotels I’ve stayed at in Medan. The window had a view of the rooftop of the old town, and I could see the elevated train line from here.

Free water is provided and there is a kettle for tea and coffee.

Kama Hotel amenities

The bathroom was also kept in good condition.

The hot water system is from a central source and was hot once it got going.

There is a breakfast service, though that will depend on your booking. I didn’t have breakfast at the hotel as I had an early train. The dining and common area is on the ground floor with big windows looking out onto the street.

Overall this was a good place to stay in Medan if you are looking for a budget hotel in a central location.

Book Kama Hotel online or search for more hotels in Medan.
