Hotel Review: Hanoi Discovery Hotel, Hanoi – Vietnam

September 3, 2018 By James Clark

Hotel Review: Hanoi Discovery Hotel, Hanoi - Vietnam

Hotel Name: Hanoi Discovery Hotel
Address: 22 Luong Ngoc Quyen Street, Hoan Kiem, Old Quarter, Hanoi, Vietnam.

I stayed at the Hanoi Discovery Hotel in Hanoi. When I booked it I was just looking for a cheap room for the night as I was just passing through. I picked this hotel for its location in the old city and its price. The rate was $13.46 USD per night. While I have stayed for $10 a night in Hanoi, this is about as cheap as it gets for a private room in Hanoi.

The Hanoi Discovery Hotel, like many other cheap guesthouses, is down a little laneway in the maze of the old city streets. I had it loaded on my Google Maps and it was easy to find.

I was greeted by the friendly owner and was soon shown to my room. The rooms here are pretty basic, but I view these sort of hotels as an alternative to staying in hostels. Here you get your own private room and bathroom, which beats staying in a dorm anytime. There is free wifi at the hotel, and I had no problem with the signal and connection.

Room

My room barely had enough space for a single bed and the area to get to the bathroom. There was a bedside table and a TV in the room. The bed was comfortable and the room had air-conditioning. There was no window in my room, but the door had some opaque glass, which allowed light into the room.

The bathroom was clean and orderly, with a good hot water system.

Bathroom

The hotel included breakfast, which was the typical Hanoi budget hotel fare of omelette and bread, and Vietnamese coffee.

Breakfast

The hotel is on Luong Ngoc Quyen Street, which is one of the main backpacker party streets in the Old Quarter. I arrived at night when the street was in full swing, and I was concerned it would be too noisy. The hotel is tucked away enough to be insulated from the noise (or at least my non-window room was). The hotel is less than 10 minutes walk from the roundabout at the Hoan Kiem Lake, so it was a good location for exploring.

Luong Ngoc Quyen Street

Overall this was a good place to stay as an alternative to sleeping in a dorm room. If you just want a cheap private room, then this is for you. For a few dollars more though you can easily find something much bigger.

Check prices for the Hanoi Discovery Hotel or search for more hotels in Hanoi. If you are new to Hanoi, then check out the guide on where to stay in Hanoi.
