Hotel Review: Simms Boutique Hotel Bukit Bintang – Kuala Lumpur

May 15, 2017 By James Clark

Hotel Review: Simms Boutique Hotel Bukit Bintang - Kuala Lumpur

Guesthouse Name: Simms Boutique Hotel Bukit Bintang
Address: No 180 Jalan Pudu, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I stayed at the Simms Boutique Hotel Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur.

I booked online at the rate of $16.50 USD per night, which is at the low end of private rooms in KL. The hotel name says Bukit Bintang, which refers to the area around Bukit Bintang street – a popular area to stay in Kuala Lumpur. Jalan Pudu (Pudu Street) connects Chinatown to Bukit Bintang, and is lined with cheap guesthouses.

I wasn’t expecting much from this stay given the cheap price, so I was confused as to why it was called Boutique. I stayed at an actual Boutique hotel in Bukit Bintang on my last trip, and this was nothing like a boutique hotel. I knew what to expect from a Jalan Pudu cheapo hotel, but if you you were booking with expectations of boutiqiness, then consider yourself warned.

Simms Boutique Hotel Bukit Bintang

The hotel is on Jalan Pudu, a few doors down from where Bukit Bintang starts, so it is a pretty good location. I got the monorail from KL Sentral to Hang Tuah station, and walked about 5 minutes from there. The hotel has a wide street frontage with a bright and modern looking reception.

I got a single room with a private bathroom and no window. I usually avoid rooms with no window, but make an exception for short stays. The rooms are in the style of typical cheap guesthouses in KL, with thin partitioned walls. The room itself was clean and comfortable, with a single bed and desk and chair. The room had an A/C unit.

As you can see, the bathroom has managed to be fitted into this small space, with a clean and tidy little bathroom with a hot shower.

Back in the reception area the there a public lounge with a TV,

A breakfast of toast and coffee is served here in the morning.

The wifi in my room was excellent, and I couldn’t believe how fast I was able to save photos. I noticed at the reception they were promoting an in-house hotel movie app, which makes sense for the future of hotel movies. This of course depends on hotels providing fast (and free) wifi.

TV app

Overall this was a decent enough budget guesthouse in KL. If you are looking for a basic place to stay then this does the job. Book the Simms Boutique Hotel online or search for more hotels in Kuala Lumpur.
