Hotel Review: Shobi Hotel, Johor Bahru – Malaysia

Hotel Review: Shobi Hotel, Johor Bahru - Malaysia

Hotel review of Shobi Hotel, a budget hotel suitable for drivers in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

Guesthouse Name: Shobi Hotel.
Address: NO 22 & 24, Susur 1 Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia.

I stayed at Shobi Hotel in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. I booked online at the rate of $18.71 USD per night, and I booked it for its budget price.

I was looking for a hotel during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which explained why I couldn’t find anything in the city centre. I have visited JB before so I am familiar with where to stay in the city centre. Shobi Hotel is just outside the city centre next to a busy highway.

Shobi Hotel parking

The Shobi Hotel is in a row of modern shophouses in front of a parking lot. This is called a strip mall in some countries.

I arrived in the evening and there was someone there to check me in.

Shobi Hotel reception

My room type was a “Superior Twin With Window”. The room faced the front parking lot, but it wasn’t too noisy.

Shobi Hotel room

The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious enough. There is free wifi and I had a good reception in my room.

Free drinking water is provided and there is basic coffee-making facilities.

Shobi Hotel kettle

The bathroom was the usual shower/toilet combined wet room. It was kept in good condition.

There is no breakfast service here, but luckily there is an Indian restaurant open a few doors down that does Indian breakfast. Apart from that, it’s a boring area for food and drink.

If you’ve never been to JB, the city is a terrible place for pedestrians as there are few footpaths outside the old area. I had to walk along a highway and then use an overpass to get to the city centre. It’s about 20-minutes walk to JB Sentral (the main train station) but Google shows it as 40 minutes because it gets confused with all the roads.

Johor Bahru traffic

Overall this was a good budget hotel option, but I would only recommend it if you have your own transport. It’s too far from the city centre to walk in safety.

Book Shobi Hotel online or search for more hotels in Johor Bahru.
