Hotel Review: Sakura Elite Kuala Lumpur

April 13, 2024 By James Clark

Hotel Review: Sakura Elite Kuala Lumpur

Hotel review of the Sakura Elite Kuala Lumpur on Jalan Pudu, a budget hotel between Chinatown and Bukit Bintang in KL.

Guesthouse Name: Sakura Elite Kuala Lumpur.
Address: 50 Jln Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I stayed at Sakura Elite Kuala Lumpur in Kuala Lumpur. I booked online at the rate of 83.90 MYR ($17.65 USD) per night, and I booked it for its price and location in Kuala Lumpur.

Sakura Elite Kuala Lumpur is located on Jalan Pudu, which is the main road that connects the Chinatown/Old City area to the Bukit Bintang shopping area. This location makes it one of the best areas to stay in Kuala Lumpur.

The hotel is opposite the old Pudu Bus station, which was the main long-distance bus station for the city until it was moved to TBS. Jalan Pudu is still lined with cheap hotels as a hangover from the days when this area was the main bus terminal. There are still some airport buses that depart from Pudu, but most of the services have moved.

The names of the hotels on Jalan Pudu have changed so often over the years that I have been visiting KL, so I wasn’t sure where the Sakura Elite was. The hotel was previously Sandpiper Hotel (though I’m not sure if its the same business).

The reception area is spacious and modern, and I was checked in by a friendly receptionist.

The hotel has lifts, but it is one of those superstitious places that doesn’t have a 4th floor.

No 4th floor

I booked a single room with a window. The room was small but it was lorganised in a way to comfortably fit the single bed and have a little desk on the side.

The bed was comfortable and the room had air-conditioning (a must for these building in KL).

The desk and chair set was useful considering how small the room was. There is free wifi, and I had a good connection in my room.

The bathroom was a typical shower/toilet wet room that any traveller in Southeast Asia would be used to. What I haven’t found the answer to is why do Malaysia toilet hoses not have guns at the end? It should be a bum gun, but instead it’s a hose with no control over the water flow. Apart from that toilet thought, the shower was ok.

What wasn’t ok was having the sink outside of the bathroom. I’m not sure why some places do this. I don’t think that the saved space is worth having the sink outside of the wet room area.

When I booked a room with a window, I wasn’t expecting much of a view. It turned out that I had a direct and uninterrupted view of Merdeka 118 (the second-tallest building in the world). It was amazing to be laying in bed and looking at this gigantic building.

There is a restaurant in the reception area, but I didn’t bother checking if there was a breakfast service. I would never book a hotel breakfast in Kuala Lumpur when I’m only here for a few days and there is so much great food outside.

Overall this was a good budget room option in KL. I wasn’t expecting much as the hotels on Pudu tend to be old and run down, but this was a good deal if you just want a cheap room.
