Hotel Name: Red Planet Bangkok Asoke.
Address: 7 Sukhumvit 14 Alley, Khlong Toei, Bangkok, Thailand.
I stayed at the Red Planet Bangkok Asoke in Bangkok. I booked online at the rate of 499 THB ($14.85 USD) per night, and I booked it for its price and location in Bangkok.
Red Planet Bangkok Asoke is in Sukhumvit Soi 14, which is right next to one of the gates of the Asok BTS station. Being near Asok BTS Station (and Sukhumvit MRT) makes it one of the best areas to stay in Bangkok.
Soi 14 is a dead-end street, so it is surprisingly quiet for what is basically the middle of Bangkok. The street faces the massive Terminal 21 shopping complex, which you can see at the entrance to the street.
Sukhumvit road is lined with big apartment towers that follow the BTS line, but once you go inland of Sukhumvit road it becomes low rise with many old bungalows amidst gardens.
Red Planet Hotels is a hotel chain based in Bangkok, with hotels in Thailand as well as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Japan. The hotel is a 3-star hotel offering budget minimalist rooms, and they had a big cash boost to expand further before the pandemic.
The reception has a modern budget hotel feel, and it reminded me of Tune Hotels from Malaysia. Red Planet was an investor in Tune Hotels so that explained the familiarity.
I booked a Standard Double Room, and I had a window that looked out towards Sukhumvit Road. I could hear the BTS in the distance but no car noise, so it was the right kind of noise in my room.
The room was compact, with just enough room on either side of the bed to get into bed. The bed was comfortable and the room had air conditioning, which was required at all times. A fan would have been better at night. There was a good wifi reception in my room.
The bathroom was also compact, but this is to be expected for a budget room in the middle of the city. The bathroom was in good condition and there was enough space around the sink (a personal minimum requirement for a good bathroom).
There is a common lounge area in the reception, but there wasn’t any breakfast service.
Overall this was a great place to stay in Bangkok. It is an affordable hotel in the middle of the action, but with an unusually quiet street for the location. Note that I was there after Thailand reopened, so the price was cheaper than usual.
