Hotel Name: MEININGER Hotel Salzburg City Center
Address: 18-20 Fuerbergstreet, Salzburg, Austria
I have stayed with Meininger before in their London branch, and I recall it as being one of my best London hostel experiences (I’ve probably been to over 20 London hostels). I emailed Meininger and offered to review their Salzburg hotel, and they provided my room for a night.
Meininger is a hybrid hotel-hostel concept, where the properties have a combination of hostel dorms and private rooms. The lobbies have the feel of a modern and efficient hotel chain with lots of social spaces that you would expect in a hostel. The private rooms are great for “flashpackers” – those who still want to live the backpacking life while having the comforts of a private room.
My room reatured a double bed, a couch, and a small table and chair.
On the table was some welcome snacks and water, which I always find a thoughtful touch – especially if you have been travelling all day and haven’t stopped for a snack.
The attached bathroom was clean and modern, with a walk-in shower and soap dispenser.
Downstairs there is a bar area with coffee and alcohol served, and a cool lounge area next to that.
There is a breakfast service at an additional cost, but I left before breakfast to see it.
Wifi was excellent everywhere in the property as well.
The hotel is located about 20 minutes walk from the main train station and 15 minutes from the historic old town. I didn’t mind this as the hotel building is so big there is no way it would have a place in the old town.
Overall this was a excellent stay. I enjoy the Meininger concept of the modern and professionally run hotel/hostel. They also have hostels in Vienna, London, Amsterdam, and locations across Germany. Check out MEININGER Hotels & Hostels for other locations.
