Hotel Review: Friendship Motel, Georgetown – Penang

May 23, 2017 By James Clark

Hotel Review: Friendship Motel, Georgetown - Penang

Hotel Name: Friendship Motel
Address: 20 Penang Street, George Town, Malaysia

I stayed at the Friendship Motel in Penang. This hotel is not far from the action of Little India in historic Georgetown. I walked in and booked a room myself, though you can also book it online.

Friendship Motel

Like most properties in Georgetown, the hotel occupies a heritage building of the typical Penang shophouse style.

Hall

Inside the hotel it has been refitted for budget accommodation. The cheapest rooms are partitioned boxes with a shared bathroom. I got a double room with private bathroom upstairs. Actually I’m not sure if this was meant to be a twin room or a double room with a super king-size bed. The room had two double beds pushed next to each other.

Beds

The bathroom was clean and decent, with a good hot water system.

Bathroom

My room had an air conditioner and a big window to an interior courtyard. I’m not sure how many other rooms get a window, given the length of the property.

There is wifi throughout the hotel, though some rooms don’t get a signal. I asked about wifi and I was put in a room near a signal box. I was lucky this time, but I would prefer if hotels just put multiple signal boxes rather than just one for a whole floor.

Overall this was a decent budget hotel/guesthouse. Book the Friendship Motel online or search for more hotels in Penang. If you’re not sure where to stay in Penang then read this guide for staying in Georgetown.
