Enjoyed your article. You are correct in that if you are doing what you love retirement is only a state of mind. I am 71 and semi-retired in Japan. My Japanese wife and I moved here in 2013 and I immediately started writing about all my travel experiences. I can't imagine slowing down. We visited Thailand last year and enjoyed it very much. My wife is a city person and I am a country boy, so living in a Yokohama suburb meets both our requirements. It is nowhere near the costs of living in Tokyo, although more expensive than most of Asia. Definitely want to visit Da Nang on one of our future trips. Have a great 2019.

Interesting article. Personally not for me at all, too big, too congested, too crowded.
If I had to retire in Thailand I'd indeed choose CM.
The thing is that you need to have $85,000 on your bank account and prove a minimum pension of $2000/month. That is not really a retirement for just anyone.
Whereas in Cambodia, if you are 55 you get a retirement visa, no question asked. And they have some very nice islands too over here.
But I must say that Da Nang sounds great for a seaside retirement city.
