Flight Review: VietJet Air – Quy Nhon to Ho Chi Minh City

May 18, 2018 By James Clark

Flight Review: VietJet Air – Quy Nhon to Ho Chi Minh City

Flight: Vietnam Airlines VJ 387
From: Quy Nhon (UIH) To: Ho Chi Minh City (SGN)

I flew with VietJet Air from Quy Nhon to Ho Chi Minh City. I compared flights with Skyscanner. The three main airlines of Vietnam fly here from Hanoi and HCMC, and I picked VietJet for the price and time of day. For the flight to Quy Nhon I flew with Vietnam Airlines. Being based in Vietnam I have become a frequent flyer of VietJet, having last flown with them in February.

There are three flights a day from Quy Nhon to Saigon, evenly spaced out through the day. The midday one was the most appealing for me.

VietJet Air UIH-SGN flights

I didn’t need a checked bag on this flight, so the total price was 522,900 VND (about $23 USD).

Flight price

The flight was scheduled for 12.55, arriving at 14:05. On the morning of the flight I got an email that the new flight time was 13.45. I didn’t check my emails so I missed this alert. Fortunately it was later and not earlier, or I might have been in trouble.

Checking in at Phu Cat Airport (the airport of Quy Nhon) was quick and easy.

VietJet Air check-in

The domestic terminal at Phu Cat Airport is new and has two airbridges, but for some reason weren’t being used.

Boarding at Phu Cat

Having just flown with Vietnam Airlines two days earlier the difference in legroom space was fresh in my mind. Here you can see there is barely enough space between my knees and the seat in front of me.

There is no inflight meal service on VietJet Air, but you can pre-order meals or order in flight.

Menu

Drinks are very reasonably priced, perhaps the cheapest of any airline I’ve flown. A coffee here is 20,000 VND ($0.88 USD).

Drinks menu

A hot meal is 55,000 VND ($2.40 USD). Note that the prices are double for international flights.

Food menu

The flight from Quy Nhon to Saigon is just under an hour, and we arrived on time (on the newly scheduled time). Tan Son Nhat Airport is a busy airport, so the chances are good that if you fly VietJet you will be disembarking on the tarmac.

Tarmac arrival

Overall this was a good flight, especially for $23! If you are looking for cheap domestic flights in Vietnam then check out VietJet. Note that I have had flight times changed a few times before with VietJet, so if you have a time critical appointment of self-connecting to another flight then give yourself enough time.

Here are my notes on Quy Nhon, and future construction sites in Quy Nhon.
