Flight Review: South African Airways – Windhoek to Johannesburg

March 30, 2015 By James Clark Leave a Comment

South African Airways - Windhoek to Johannesburg

Flight: South African Airways SA 75
From: Windhoek (WDH) To: Johannesburg (JNB)

I flew with South African Airways from Windhoek to Johannesburg, booking via airfare search site Vayama. The flight was provided by the Namibia Tourism Board, who invited me on a press trip to visit the Mad Max filming locations.

This flight is the return leg of SA 74 which I had flown the week before. Last week the aircraft was an A320. This week it was a 737.

Windhoek to Johannesburg is a two hour flight, so I always get a window for short flights. I checked in online the night before to select my seats for this flight and my connecting flight to Hong Kong.

After driving around Namibia for a week it was great to see the landscape from the air. Most of the way was flat and red terrain, with lonely roads being the only sign of human settlement.

Lunch was served on this flight. I had a chicken curry with rice and was a good lunch.

Coffee and juice. I like how coffee is served in a reasonably sized cup. The usually crappy airline coffee but, hey, it’s got caffeine in it so it will do.

Arrival at O. R. Tambo International Airport, an onward to transfer to my next South African Airways flight to Hong Kong.
