Hostel Review: Posh Backpackers Hostel, Riga – Latvia

September 10, 2017 By James Clark

Hostel Review: Posh Backpackers Hostel, Riga - Latvia

Hotel Name: Posh Backpackers Hostel
Address: Pūpolu iela 5, Riga, Latvia.

I stayed at the Posh Backpackers Hostel in Riga. The rate was €9 for a bed in a 6-bed dorm. I wanted something in or near the old town, and close to the bus station, so this was one of the options.

The hostel is a few minutes walk from the bus station, so it is handy if you are coming or going from the other Baltic capitals.

My room was a 6-bed dorm which was bright and spacious. There weren’t many power outlets in the room, but I was there early enough to get a bed that had one.

Dorm

The bathroom was in good condition and felt clean. The shower was in the bath though and you had to hold the shower head.

Bathroom

In the hallway, there was a lounge and kitchenette area with a fridge, microwave, and tea and coffee gear.

Lounge

I couldn’t work out what the building used to be. It has an institutional feel with long corridors. It might have been related to the surrounding market.

Hall

The hostel is in the middle of a market nearby the bus and train station. It feels like it was once on the proverbial wrong side of the tracks, with most of the city development happening on the other side.

I arrived in the daytime when the market was in full operation. There are some big market hallways and outdoor stalls and it’s an interesting place to wander around even if you aren’t staying here.
