Panaji is the most deserving capital of Goa, India.. No other city can match the originality and it has kept it intact while not losing its Goan portuguese house culture.. Its beauty lies in the mixture of Mandovi river and Miramar beach merger.. Also it has all kinds of people, be it any religion, existence of churches, temples, gurudwara, masjid and most complete city..

Definitely worth a visit! I would incorporate it with a visit to Old Goa, which would need a change of bus at Panaji anyway.

Thanks for this report on Panaji, been considering it for quite some time but never sure to go or not. So few people seem to do reports on it. Would love to know what day trips are doable from the city.

Great report on lovely old Panjim. I remember going for a short trip aboard one of the several colourfully lit evening w/end music boats full of locals, that go out for a 90 min trip where they get everyone up to dance in groups of " all married ladies " next all " single ladies " next " all children" next " all single men " etc etc till everyone had been up to dance. We were the only tourists on board. It was such a charming fun time. We had gone there to find a pharmacy to buy anti malaria tablets - which cost us literally pennies - compared to the £20 price back home. Wish we had spent longer there - but the beaches and the night market in Anjuna was calling us back. Thanks James.
