I had an Airbnb booked and it was cancelled at the last minute due to Airbnb being banned https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jun/15/tourism-pollution-backlash-japan-crackdown-costs-airbnb-10m-kyoto . I ended up booking last minute and didn’t stay anywhere I would recommend. I stayed near Namba Station and Osaka station, so the is a bit more pricier to stay in those areas, but worth it for a short term visit.

I only laid over there for 1 hour back in 2011. Compared to your first, 1 day layover. 1st day of my current 7 year, around the world trip. Everybody at the airport was so nice, prim and proper. Japanese culture fascinates me.
