Hostel Review: Hostal Tercero Del Sur, Buenos Aires

Hostel Name: Hostal Tercero Del Sur
Address: Chile 368 San Telmo, Buenos Aires, 1098, Argentina

I stayed at the Hostal Tercero Del Sur upon arrival in Buenos Aires. I booked this hostel mainly for its location in the San Telmo area of BA.

The location was indeed a good spot to explore San Telmo – the oldest district of Buenos Aires – as well as being nearby to Centro (the downtown area). The hostel also happened to be one street away from the massive San Telmo weekend market, where one long street is transformed into a market every Sunday.

The hostel is in an old building with a mix of private rooms and dorms. I stayed in a six bed dorm with a mezzanine, which made for more space. Being an old building I discovered that power outlets are few and far between, but at least my bed was near an outlet.

The bed was ok but the bathroom in my dorm was damp and moldy. There was no window (only an extractor fan) so the bathroom was always feeling damp and smelly.

At the back of the building the property opens out to an outdoor common area, with a kitchen under cover at the back. This made for a pleasant place to sit for breakfast.

Breakfast consisted of cereal, bread, and medialunas – a croissant-style Pastry that is the common Argentinian breakfast offer.

While I liked the hostel and its location, the bathroom was a big turn off for me.
