Hotel Review: Elephant Lake Hotel, St. Lucia – South Africa

May 4, 2016 By James Clark

Hotel Name: Elephant Lake Hotel
Address: McKenzie Street, St. Lucia, Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa

Hotel Review: Elephant Lake Hotel, St. Lucia - South Africa

I stayed at the Elephant Lake Hotel in St. Lucia, South Africa. My accommodation was provided by South Africa Tourism (Australia) as part of a media trip. This hotel review wasn’t part of the trip but I review places I stay anyway.

St. Lucia is a pleasant small town that serves as a hub for visitors to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The Elephant Lake Hotel is a 3-star hotel and is situated in town, off the main road and by the river.

My room was a decent size with comfortable bed and big windows looking out over a garden.

Bedroom

A small bathroo but clean and tidy and got the job done.

Bathroom

The room comes with tea and coffee facilities.

Tea and coffee

Breakfast is buffet style with continental and cooked breakfast.

Breakfast

The hotel has a pool in a nice garden setting.

Pool

There was a sign in the hotel to be aware of hippos which reminds you that you are on the doorstep of the wilderness of South Africa.

Warning, hippos!

There were no hippos during my brief stay but there is a wall of photos as evidence of previous hippo visit. At breakfast there were a group of mongoose that were congregating around the pool, so that was a good animal fix for the start of the day.

Hippos at the hotel

There is usually wifi at the hotel but during my visit the wifi was not working, otherwise there would have been wifi in the lobby.

Overall this was a comfortable stay in what was a brief stop between national parks.

Book the Elephant Lake Hotel online or search for more hotels in St. Lucia.
