Cagliari Travel Guide

August 31, 2016 By James Clark

Travel Guides > Italy > Sardinia > Cagliari Travel Guide

Cagliari is the capital and largest city of the Italian island of Sardinia (the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea). When I think of Mediterranean destinations I think of beach resorts, but Cagliari is more of an old-world European city that happens to be on a beautiful island.

Cagliari has a history of thousands of years, having being founded by the Phoenicians. There are architectural remnants from every historical era that the city has witnessed. This is the cultural capital of Sardinia is an ideal city if you prefer to mix culture with a beach break.

Cagliari Airport is served by full schedule and low airline flights around Europe. easyJet fly from London and Ryanair have a base here flying to multiple Italian and northern European destinations.

From Cagliari there is a railway that travels to destinations around the island, so flying into Cagliari is a good place to start exploring the island.
