Flight Review: AirAsia X – Kuala Lumpur to Colombo

February 13, 2015 By James Clark Leave a Comment

Flight: AirAsiaX D7 182
From: Kuala Lumpur (KUL) To: Colombo (CMB)

AirAsia X - Kuala Lumpur to Colombo

I flew with AirAsiaX from Kuala Lumpur to Colombo, booking online via AirAsia.com. AirAsiaX is the brand used by AirAsia for their long-haul flights (all their flights that use A330 aircraft). It’s branded differently but it is still found online at airasia.com.

As AirAsia is a low cost airline they promote point-to-point flights, though for some flights you can book connecting flights in KL. In my case I took an AirAsia flight from Saigon to KL but I opted to stay in Malaysia for a week.

The aircraft is an A330 with 3-3-3 seat configuration.

The flight time from Kuala Lumpur to Colombo was 3 hours and 05 minutes.

Inflight Magazine

There is no inflight entertainment on AirAsiaX so you should come prepared. I use such flights to catch up on books and podcasts. On some AirAsiaX aircraft there are personal movie screens (such as the services to Australia) but not on this particular flight. They offer movie tablets to rent for 60 MYR ($16.50 USD).

AirAsia X - Entertainment

There is no meal service but you can order a hot meal upon request for a reasonable price of 19 MYR ($5.20 USD). You can order your meal when booking to save some money too.

AirAsia X - Asian Meals

There is also drinks and snacks available for purchase.

AirAsia X - Snacks

My favourite AirAsia snack is the dried mangoes (5 MYR / $1.40 USD).
