The Charming Hoi An – Vietnam

Hoi An - Vietnam

I first visited Hoi An in 2005 in what was my first trip to Southeast Asia. With three weeks in the country it was a quick trip in comparison to how I travel now. I can barely remember what I thought of Hoi An on that trip. I travelled without a laptop (which seems incomprehensible to me now) and looking back at my photos it appears that I hardly took any. So this time around Hoi An felt like a different place. Having now travelled extensively around Southeast Asia in between visits I would have to say that Hoi An is one of the most charming cities in Southeast Asia.

Hoi An is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it has the crowds that go with it. Despite the crowds it is hard not to be charmed by the narrow traffic-free streets and the fishing boats on the river.

  1. I agree James, very charming city. I’m like you, first visited in 2003 and there was no blogging or social media, I have probably 2 photographs and at the time I don’t even think I was on email ha ha (only my wife) ๐Ÿ™‚

Must get back and spend more time!

    • Ha, funny how our travel style has changed. I was looking at my old photos tonight and there is a grand total of four photos of Hoi An! I now take four photos of the one bowl of soup ๐Ÿ™‚

It would be worth coming back as ten years seems to be a long time in this country and so much as changed.
