Nomadic News: February 9, 2014

Greetings from Saigon. I’ve just returned from a two week break in Indonesia and Malaysia and I now have another three month visa for Vietnam. It was great to get away and visit some new places, but part of the joy of going away is the feeling of coming back renewed. As I looked out the window upon landing at SGN I saw this tangled up mess of a city and couldn’t wait to get back into it.

While I was in Malaysia I went back to Penang for a few days. I have been numerous times now, but in the last year there has been a cafe scene boom happening there, so I will be compiling a Penang cafe guide soon.

Working in KL

One of my favourite places to work in KL is the Starbucks at KLCC, which is the big mall under the Petronas Twin Towers. The garden and ceiling fans in the outside area make for a great break from chilly air conditioned rooms.

Comments

  1. Love your photo of Saigon from the air!

  2. Good atmosphere! Starbucks is so global. They provide WiFi, so I see international travelers in Starbucks coffee shops in Tokyo.

  3. I miss Saigon. Been there only twice, but would love to go back. My husband and I fell in love with HCMC during our honeymoon almost 3 years ago–quite unexpected since our first impression of the city at rush hour was so much different!

James, I appreciate your published point of view! Where do you get your 3 month Vietnam visa and how much is it?
